Piste ski tours in Zell am See – Kaprun

Ski tour Ronachkopf

Our guests will not find any lifts on the Ronachkopf, so it is a mountain for ski tourers only! Nevertheless, there is a prepared ski route (2.5 kilometres), which makes the night descents a safe experience. The start is at the “Ronachkopf car park” in the Thumersbach valley. You can also find the pin of the same name in Google Maps. Afterwards, the route goes 600 metres uphill along the signposted ski route. Just before the summit is the Enzianhütte. Local delicacies are served there daily.

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Length: 2,5 KM | 600 HM
  • Difficulty: medium
  • Start: Ronachkopf car park

Ski tour Maiskogel

Kaprun’s local mountain is also suitable for ski touring. Of course, skiers and snowboarders have priority in the skiing area and therefore ski touring on the slopes during skiing hours is not desired. On Wednesdays, the pistes are not prepared until 8.00 pm and therefore a piste ski tour on the Maiskogel is possible on Wednesdays from 4.15 – 8.00 pm. The summit strikers go to just below the mountain station to the rustic Glocknerblick. Those who can manage a few metres less in altitude usually stop at the Helis Hütte. Alternatively, there is a newly created ascent route just next to the piste that is possible at any time.

Facts

  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Length: 2.0 KM | 475 HM
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Start: Kitzsteinhorn car park

Ski tour Schneekönigin

A pleasant ski tour if you don’t want to go too long. From Langwiedboden you start along the piste to the Alpincenter. You start at a good 2000m. The Alpincenter is at 2450m – so you cover a good 450 metres in altitude. The Schneekoenigin is primarily a ski tour for the beginning of the season to get back into the swing of things and improve your fitness. Alternatively, you can continue off-piste after the Alpincenter.

  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Length: 2.0 KM | 475 HM

3 beginner ski tours Zell am See

Those who already feel familiar with the equipment, have learned the technique & have the necessary know-how on the mountain, are keen to make their first ski touring experiences off-piste. In addition to the equipment you need, you must always be aware of the current avalanche situation report (see lawine.salzburg.at for the latest) & also understand it in order to be able to assess the dangers in the open terrain.

When leaving the marked pistes, the following equipment is always with you:

  • LVS device
  • Shovel
  • Probe
  • Mobile phone
  • Crampons
  • Climbing iron

Ski tour Schwalbenwand

A fantastic beginner’s ski tour with a unique panorama. From the Mitterberg car park you start along a road. First you walk through the forest for about 1 hour before you cross the forest line. Above the forest line you will be immediately rewarded with a great view. You have a clear view of Lake Zell, the Schmittenhöhe which is right opposite the lake and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. The ascent track is clear – on the descent you have 2 options. Either follow the ascent track or ski down the south slope towards Schützingalm (only in safe conditions).

Facts

  • Duration: 2.5 hours
  • Length: 6.0 KM | 810 HM
  • Difficulty: medium
  • Start: Mitterberg car park

Ski tour Maurerkogel

At first, the trail leads through a deep winter forest and then you can enjoy a wonderful panorama. You start from the summit of the Schmitten. First you ski down the Kapellenpiste. Either take the Hahnkopf lift up a few metres or start right next to the T-Bar lift. The route always runs along the ridge to the Maurerkogel. In terms of the descent, you have 2 options here – either you descend as you ascended or you branch off halfway directing south-east to the Pinzgauer Hütte. Tip: if you consume something in the hut, there is a free skidoo shuttle back to the piste which is really fun.

Facts

  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Length: 3.0 KM | 570 HM
  • Difficulty: medium
  • Start: Schmitten

Ski tour Eisbrecher

The ski tour on the Eisbrecher is identical to the tour of the Schneekönigin at the beginning. You start at Langwiedboden – the route to the Alpincenter is the same. After the Alpincenter, you leave the piste and follow the signposted path off the pistes.

3 Alpine ski tours

For our alpine ski tours a good physical condition and very good mountain knowledge is mandatory. An experienced local mountain guide (www.bergwolf.at) is absolutely recommended to safely enjoy these tours!

Ski tour Hoher Tenn

The longest continuous ski tour in the Alps with a continuous ascent of 2500 metres in altitude. A feat of strength that definitely requires a lot of experience and stamina. We start in Fusch at just under 900 metres and then climb to the summit of the Hoher Tenn at 3368 metres. Shortly before the ski depot, an indescribable view of the neighbouring “Grosse Wiesbachhorn” opens up. The last few metres are done without skis – crampons should definitely be taken along on this tour.

Facts

  • Duration: 6.5 hours
  • Length: 11 KM | 2500 HM
  • Difficulty: difficult
  • Start: Fusch – Wimmerbauer

Ski tour Imbachhorn

The little brother of the Hoher Tenn is the most prominent mountain visible from Zell am See and a fantastic ski touring mountain. You start in Fusch again – the first metres in altitude are in the forest. The first open slopes, however, are already well below the forest line. With its 1700 metres of altitude difference, the ski tour in Zell am See – Kaprun to the Imbachhorn is also only something for tourers with good physical condition. At the top, there is a beautiful summit cross with a magnificent view of Zell am See and also to the Hoher Tenn and the Kitzsteinhorn.

Facts

  • Duration: 5.0 hours
  • Length: 9.3 KM | 1700 HM
  • Difficulty: difficult
  • Start: Fusch

Ski tour Kitzsteinhorn

Last but not least, our last Alpine ski tour leads to the Kitzsteinhorn in Zell am See – Kaprun. Because of the ski area, there are several options from where you can climb to the summit of the Kitzsteinhorn. From the Gipfelwelt 3000 it is not even 200 metres in altitude to the summit, but we start the same way as for the ski tour Eisbrecher & Schneekönigin – from Langwiedboden. Up to the summit slope at just under 3000 metres, the tour is along the slopes or along the signposted routes. The summit slope and thus the last 200 metres in altitude are very demanding and hardly manageable on skis. Crampons & a mountain guide are definitely recommended. At 3203 metres, the efforts will definitely be worth it – a fantastic view of the Kaprun reservoirs and the surrounding mountains, all the way to the Großglockner.

Facts

  • Duration: 4.0 hours
  • Length: 5,2 KM | 1200 HM
  • Difficulty: difficult
  • Start: Kitzsteinhorn car park
