Biking tours in Zell am See, Kaprun

Zell am See, but also the Kaprun region makes all cyclists’ hearts beat faster. From Krimml to Unken you will find numerous bike trails in all difficulties. You can start them all from your apartment or chalet. Down in the valleys you can cycle around the most beautiful lakes of the Pinzgau area. Those who prefer the alpine feeling will head towards the numerous mountain trails. We have collected an overview of the most renown bike trails for sporty couples, but also the more relaxed tours for families. Mitterberg

A beautiful and perfect beginner’s bike trail for the start of your holiday. Start from Zell am See and finish at the beautiful Mitterberg. First you cycle along Lake Zell towards Thumersbach. You will find an asphalt road up to the Mitterberg Gasthof. It is very pleasant to cycle. After around 10 kilometres and 450 metres of altitude gain, you have earned your Kaiserschmarrn at the Gasthof Mitterberg. Enjoy top panorama with an incredible view at the lake with the Kitzsteinhorn in the background.

Sonnberg – Jaga Alm

The tour will guide you to the rooftops of Zell am See. Your goal is to reach the Jaga Alm and cycle back via the Sonnberg. There are several options for this bike trail high above lake Zell. Our suggestion is probably the more demanding route, but it guarantees by far the most beautiful view. Have fun on your bike and don´t forget to taste one of the regional specialities at the Jaga Alm.

Tauernradweg

The Pinzgauer Lokalbahn can be used free of charge, with your mobility card. The starting point of the bike tour is Zell am See station or Fürth station if your are coming from Kaprun. You will  take the train to Krimml. From the Krimml Waterfalls you start your tour in the direction of Mittersill, cycling through the Salzach valley back to Zell am See. Along the way there are numerous places to stop for refreshments at some beautiful lakes. Tip: You can also do the route the other way round, but there are more meters to climb then.

Top touren Kaprun

Kaprun – Lechnerberg

The tour leads from Kaprun via the Lechnerberg into the direction of the Imbachorn. The road is mostly gravel and we recommend to go with a mountain bike. If you are not out of breath after almost 300 metres in altitude, you should definitely continue to the Klammsee. It will take an extra hour to circle the lake. A small kiosk offers the first opportunity to stop for refreshments.

MTB Trails Kaprun

You can use the cable car to reach the Alpine Center. Your bike transport is if course included in the ticket. You should arrive well-equipped with helmet and back protector to the start of the first trail. In total Kaprun offers three mountain bike freeride trails - the Geissstein Trail, the Wüstlau Trail and the Bachler Trail - The Kitzsteinhorn offers ideal conditions for mountain biking with its small boulders, jumps and ledges. Fruther, there is a trail on the Maiskogel that is suitable for beginners. In the GPX datas below we have linked the longest and most renown trail – the Wüstlau one.

Hundstein

The longest and probably most demanding mountain bike trail in Zell am See. The tour will challenge you on 40 kilometres (there & back) and 1340 metres of altitude. It starts whether in Zell am See or Kaprun and leads to Thumersbach. The first part is a moderate ascent on asphalt until just below the Enzianhütte. At the MTB route/gravel path to Hundstein begins. If you want to recharge your batteries before the exhausting and long ascent, a stop at the rustic hut is a good idea. Once you reach the summit, the Statzerhaus will server you refreshments and a fantastic view.
