The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier also offers a beautiful alpine experience in summer.

You can relax and take the cable car up to the spectacular Panorama Platform “Top of Salzburg” or a sophisticated hike in the mountains. The Schmittenhöhe Mountain awaits you with countless activities. For example the play tower at Schmidolins Feuertaufe (Baptism of Fire), the E-Motocross Park or a leisurely hike to the reservoirs. The lake offers numerous water sports, as well as motor bike and bike tours around it. Above all else it offers a great way to cool down. Day 1

summer in zell am see-Kaprun - Kitzsteinhorn

Kitzstienhorn Glacier. The Glacier cable car opens at 8:15am. Gletscherjet 1 and 2 take you up to 3000m. In Summit World you can marvel over nature in widescreen format before taking in the views of the National Park from the Panorama Platform “Top of Salzburg”. On sunny days you can see as far as the Wilden Kaiser and the Watzmann right to the Großvenediger.

On the way back into the village is the gorge with a lake, the Sigmund-Thun Klamm. After a short hike through the gorge you will reach the lake. Tip for the way home: There are plenty of grass areas near the water which are ideal for a picnic

To finish off the day there is one more attraction. Just at the beginning of Kaprun Village – The Alpine Coaster  “Maisiflitzer”. The summer toboggan run in Zell am See-Kaprun guarantees fun and adrenaline for both young and old. While parents enjoy some coffee and cake in the “Maisialm” the children can play in the amusement park next to it.

Day 2

It’s a sunny day! Quickly pack your swim gear and go to the lake. You can enjoy the sun at any of the three Beach Clubs around the lake. At Beach Club “Seespitz” in Schüttdorf there are water sport activities such as wind surfing and stand-up paddle boarding (SUP). Edi’s Water School is based in Thumersbach Beach Club: water skiing, wakeboarding and many more activities await you there. If you decide to visit the Zeller Beach Club (next to the village) there are also many activities to keep you entertained. You can enjoy a boat tour on the MS Schmitten or rent a private electric or paddle boat.

Vera’s Secret Tip: Plan lunch or dinner in Beach Club Thumersbach. You can enjoy an unforgetable relaxing meal directly at the lake.

The swimming experience blends really well with a bike tour around the Zeller Lake. On the 13km trail you will cycle through the beautiful Zeller marshland and countryside right along the lakeside.

Day 3

The mountain is calling! You will reach the summit of the Schmittenhöhe fastest by taking the cable car at the bottom of the Schmittentals (Top of Schmittenstrasse).

Vera’s Secret Tip: Take a hike from the summit to the middle station and the City Express cable car.

If you are only planning a short walk then it is best to start from the City Express cable car. It is situated right in the village. From the middle station (top of city express) you will reach the beautiful reservoir. In just a few minutes – panoramic view included! If you want to surprise the children with a few laps at the E-Motorcross, you should take the AreitXpress cable car in Schüttdorf to the middle station. While the children test out the motorbike tracks, parents can relax at the Areitalm.

Tip for bad weather: In the Youth Club Pecile there is a large climbing wall, squash courts and an indoor beach volleyball hall.

Day 4

Summer in Zell am See-Kaprun - Oldtown

If you are leaving after only a short trip, you still have countless ways to finish your summer holiday in Zell am See-Kaprun. How about a stroll through the old town of Zell am See? The centre of the village offers many shops where you can buy souvenirs or highstreet fashion from a range of boutiques in the Old Town.

Tip for bad weather: The “Vötters Vehicle Museum” is home to 200 exhibits and lots of automobile history and the Kaprun Museum tells you the history of Kaprun.

If your home journey is in the northerly direction it is worth taking a detour to the surrounding mountain lakes and gorges (Seisenbergklamm, Kitzlochklamm near Lofer).Those who have decided to spend a week in the region have made the correct decision. For you there are many more adventures waiting.

Day 5

high alpine road

Did you Know? The Großglockner Alpine Road is the highest pass road in Austria. So either by car or by bike travel towards Fusch Valley and there you start your accent of the Großglockner.

The Kaiser-Franz-Josefs Höhe was built in 1935 and is accessible by car, motorbike or bike. From the road you have the best view of the highest mountain in Austria – The Großglockner measures 3798 Meters and is the home of the largest glacier of the eastern alps, the Pasterze.

The best part: On the way to the Großglockner you will find the Ferleiten Wildlife and Adventure Park, which you can reach in summer within 20 minutes from Zell am See-Kaprun. You can admire over 200 alpine animals such as lynx, bears, wolves and many more. The children can enjoy the playground while parents watch from the sun terrace of the Lukashansl restaurant.

Vera’s Secret Tip: Take a Caddy Tour of the Wildlife park in the beautiful Käfertal. Surprise yourself!

Day 6

Trip to Krimml waterfalls

On the way to Krimml you will find the National Park Centre Mittersill. An exhibition area of 1800 m2, which is spread over three floors. You will find countless themed stations at which you can learn about the National Park Hohe Tauern. On the top floor there is a spectacular 3D cinema!

On the way to the world famous Krimml Waterfalls you can indulge in the alpine landscapes and beautiful Austrian style farms. The first waterfall at 380m you can walk to in just 10-15 minutes. There are shuttle services to the Schönangerl guesthouse which is situated above the middle waterfall, from 11:00am until 16:00/4:00pm.

Those who want to enjoy a coffee with a view in the afternoon should visit Mittersill Castle on their way home.

Vera’s Secret Tip: Take the Local Train from Zell am See to Krimml, visit the waterfalls and take a bike tour back to Zell am See stopping off at the nicest lake in Pinzgau for a swim to cool down.

Day 7

Zell am See - Saalachtal

If your home journey is passing the Saalachtal führt, you are advised to take a detour to Leogang. The Flying Fox steel rope slide is 1600 metres long and reaches a top speed of 130km/h. For more culture than adventure, spend the day at the Show Mines, Leogang. In the oldest show mine in the country, they mined silver over 600 years ago. Explore the historical tunnels on narrow roads and learn interesting facts about mining of the past centuries.

Tip: Early risers can enjoy both activities! Alternatively enjoy your departure day in the inner village of Zell am See.
